How does it work?

STEP 1: Choose Study Method

After reading the information on this site or calling  on 020 843 22722 or emailing at email@GlobeTouch.co.uk you should think about the study method that suits you best.

You can study from home using the Interactive eLearning Pack complete with videos and OTeSS Simulations, or choose the Deluxe home study kit which also includes a brand new computer base unit, allowing you to perform the 'tasks' practically.

All home study courses are supplied with an online tutor who will guide you every step of the way.

The course has no entry requirement or age restrictions.

STEP 2: Tutor Introduction & Completing The Course Work

After choosing your study pack and enrolling through Globe Touch UK (020 843 22722 email@GlobeTouch.co.uk), you are granted instant access to the eLearning System.  You will be automatically assigned to a tutor who will send an introduction email within one working day.  This person will remain your contact throughout and assist in all aspects of your learning and assessment.

About your tutor

All of the tutors have at least 10 years experience of working within the IT industry.

The vast majority of contact with your tutor will be via email, simply posting assessment scores, or asking general questions.  Emails are always answered within one working day and often within an hour (during office hours).

When required your tutor is available by telephone during office hours even if your personal tutor is unavailable at that time there will always be someone who can help.

Instant answers

The ‘Tutor Archive’ is a new feature made possible by the Kandu eLearning™ system.

The tutors have been instructed to add student communication (with all personal details removed) into a database, gradually creating a searchable bank of questions and answers.  Over time this will develop into an instant answer system that can act as a first stop when help is required.

Completing the Coursework

The coursework is presented using a simple Internet based user interface.  You simply move from one task to the next as instructed, watching videos, completing simulations and practical tasks (should you have the required hardware). You will be occasionally presented with a self assessment.  This does not count towards your final mark and simply helps measure your performance.  Your progress will be automatically recorded along with results.  The 5 units take around 70 learning hours to complete, the deadline on completing these learning hours is up to 5 years.

The student packs allow 12 months access to the online system, if more time is required this can be extended by 1 month at a time charged at just £10 per month.

Your progress is kept on the database as long as you have an active subscription.  Should you allow a subscription to end, your course progress will be lost, but the course can be restarted on a pay as you go basis at £10 per month.

Once you are achieving around 85% on all self assessments, you will be ready for final assessment.

STEP 3: Final Assessment

Once you are regularly scoring 85% or above on the Self Assessments and Revisions provided, you should be ready for final assessment.

Booking the Assessment

The first step is to inform your tutor who will then oversee the booking process and provide all of the information you require.

Your tutor will provide details of the nearest Approved Assessment Centres according to your postcode.

Once a suitable centre has been located an assessment can be booked with around 10-14 days notice.  Assessments normally take place within office hours.

The total fee for final assessment is £89.00. This is paid on the day of the assessment, to the centre that you attend.

If your closest centre is not within a convenient distance, or for some reason is unsuitable, we can arrange for the assessment to be held in a “temporary assessment centre”.  This does not incur any extra costs but the extra paperwork can increase waiting time up to around 21 days.

About the Assessment

The final assessment is paper-based and consists of 100 random questions to be completed within 1 hour.  The questions are a mixture of multiple choice and ‘short-answer’, meaning no more than a sentence will need to be written.

The papers are then marked externally which takes around 10 days, you will then be informed of your results.

Should you score 75% or above you will be awarded the National BTEC Award in Computer Engineering, with your official certificates arriving 4-6 weeks later.

Re-sits

Should you not score 75% at the first attempt you are free to re-book the exam at the reduced price of £65 as many times as required.

HOWEVER ……..

The first-time pass rate of someone sitting the final exam is OVER 99%.  This is because the syllabus, final exam and coursework have been designed by the same team in order to ensure that every piece of information you require is included.

If someone follows the eLearning interface from start to finish, they will almost certainly pass first time.

The course has no entry requirement or age restrictions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before deciding to enrol for any course you should ask as many questions as possible, here are a few of the most common we are asked:

Who was the course designed for?

Anyone wanting to maintain computers.  PC support staff, technicians, field engineers, anyone seeking employment within the IT industry or with a general interest in computers

What skills/qualifications do I need to start?

There are no entry requirements. Youngest candidate has been 14 with eldest being over 80 years old.  Some basic computer knowledge is helpful

How long will it take me to complete?

The coursework and tasks will take around 70 learning hours to complete, you are initially given 12 months access to the learning system in order to complete this.  If you would like to extend your access this can be done for just £10 per month.

Will a potential employer have heard about the BTEC?

Yes, the BTEC is a well respected nationally recognised qualification and has been established for many years.

I'm thinking of starting my own PC Repair company will this course help me to do this?

Without a doubt, many clients do just this and think everyone of them would admit that it would have been much more difficult without the BTEC.  Your unlimited tutor support will also come in handy anytime you need a second opinion or general advice.  It is in our interest for you to succeed so tutors are more than happy to help in every step of the way.

If you are thinking of starting your own business you can be sure that 99% of your customer base will be aware of BTEC qualifications.

I've been unemployed for some years now, will it get me a job?

The best way of thinking about this is what you can offer a potential employer, take a look at your C.V, does it show any signs of self improvement recently? Does it show you are able to change your career? Do you have any recent national qualifications?

Are there any hidden costs?

No, all costs are listed on this website.  You simply select your preferred study package (Interactive eLearning or Deluxe eLearning), then pay your final assessment fee on the day that you take the exam..

I am unemployed/receiving a low income, is there any way I can find funding?

Many of our students manage to enrol for free by finding funding from 3rd party organisations such as the employment services.  The availability of funding varies and is down to personal circumstances.  We normally suggest contacting a careers advisor or someone who deals with your benefits.  You should ask if there is any available help towards the cost of further learning.

Those interested should contact their local Job Centre Plus office.

Can I pay by cheque/postal order?

Yes, all cheques and postal orders should be made payable to Kandu Education Limited and sent to:

Kandu Education Limited
The Enterprise Centre
University of Hull
Cottingham Road
Hull
HU67RX

Once posted please send an email to Info@kanduIT.co.uk so that we can inform you of its arrival.

Once payment has cleared we will respond with details of your access to the learning system and post any goods ordered.

Another provider has insisted that I spend thousands of pounds on a “guaranteed job” scheme, do you offer something similar?

No, if you have been guaranteed a job you should read the terms and conditions very carefully.

Some providers will bundle together as many as 11 certifications, charging thousands of pounds in the process.  The guaranteed job will only be available should you pass all 11 exams, in a very short space of time, sometimes around 12 months.  This can prove very difficult and an expensive mistake.

Our students progress onto a variety of different certifications, using more affordable books and study guides along with their tutor from our course.

Some training providers are more concerned with financial packages than actual training, you should be wary of any provider who will not reveal their prices until a salesman has called.

What if I do need to take a break from my studies?  Will the information I have be out of date?  Will I need to re-enrol? Will my time & effort be wasted ?

Sometimes circumstances will mean that a user is unable to complete the coursework within the 12 months provided.  Your progress will be retained as long as you have an active subscription which can be extended at a cost of £10 per month.  Should you allow the 12 months to pass without completion or renewal your progress will automatically be removed from the database.  However your registration lasts for 5 years so you can re-start the course at any point in this period on a pay-as-you-go £10 per month basis

I have seen that some certifications are only valid for a couple of years.  How long does my certificate remain valid?

Before enrolling for any course you should check the validation period of your final qualification.  The National BTEC Award in Computer Engineering is a qualification for LIFE.

CompTIA A+

What is the difference between the BTEC Award in Computer Engineering  and the CompTIA A+?

The BTEC qualification focuses primarily on the practical techniques of installing and configuring hardware & software.  The CompTIA A+ goes much more in-depth with regards to the theoretical aspects of the components and software but is less practically focused.

Which is the best qualification?

Both have their strengths, ideally obtaining both qualifications would ensure a well rounded knowledge of the theoretical aspects of computing and a good practical background.  The A+ is a certification developed by the IT industry whilst as an academic qualification the BTEC can add to  points used towards the entry of higher education.

For a limited time we are offering the Complete CompTIA A+ study guide from Sybex free with all BTEC enrolments.

This edition also includes a bonus CD-ROM with electronic flash cards and over 600 practice questions for the A+ 2009 certification track, exams 220-701 (Essentials) and 220-702 (Practical Application).

Which course should I complete first?

We recommend completing the National BTEC Award in Computer Engineering before moving on to the A+,  the practical aspects of the course will help you to visualise some of the key theoretical aspects of the A +.

By completing the BTEC first you will have obtained a recognised IT qualification allowing you to proceed with job applications etc, whilst awaiting your A+.

Will my tutor be available for both courses?

Yes, your tutor will be there to help in every aspect of both courses. Your tutor support is essentially unlimited IT Support for life!

Enrolling now gives the opportunity to achieve two valuable qualifications for a single low price.
